2FA is when one needs to enter 2 levels of authentication while attempting to enter an area such as a web-site or a VPN connection. By the basic nature of having to do something 2 times, one’s common sense definitely makes you realize that there is a focus on security here, to a greater extent. Thus, self explanatory that 2FA authentication is generally used when very secure access is required for anyone to login and do anything else once in.
The most striking experience that’s literally made me feel the true meaning and use of 2FA is getting into a VPN connection of a customer’s secure network, which had me to set-up a 2FA authentication i.e. a password and a dynamically generated pin by an App. Another eg. would be getting to access your bank account which has a lot of personal information like you account number, bank balance etc. which is very personal and very sensitive and something that needs the right level of security for only the authorized owner to get in.
So , how can I use this experience ? Probably, the next time I’m working on setting up a VPN connection or building a web-site which exposes extremely sensitive data, I will recommend building one with a 2FA authentication.
